What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A nurse practitioner is a Registered Nurse who has advanced education and clinical training in a health care specialty area. Nurse practitioners work with people of all ages. They provide information people need to make informed decisions about their health care and lifestyle choices. Nurse Practitioners differ from physicians in that they focus more on prevention, wellness, etc. Dr. Wenger-Keller's two nurse practitioners, Luanne Johnson and Peggy Hirte, often serve as the regular health care provider for children and adults in times of health and in illness.

What if I need to see my doctor after the office is closed?
Dr. Wenger-Keller's office participates in a call coverage system. This means that a group of six doctors, including Dr. Wenger-Keller, take turns seeing each others patients after hours. Call the regular office phone number, 319-372-6280, to access health care after hours.  If you have an actual emergency, please immediately call 911.

A medical record release form must be signed in the office. After signing the release, your records will be available within seven business days. The first copy of your medical record is free. Subsequent copies will be provided at a nominal charge.

Can I be seen for any medical problem at either office of Dr. Wenger-Keller?
Yes. Although the Burlington office primarily takes care of our asthma/allergy patients, you may be seen at either office.

How do I know if my blood pressure is normal?
You should look at blood pressure averages, not just one reading. A general rule is that blood pressure less than 140 (top number) and 90 (bottom number) is in the normal range (In some circumstances, less than 120/80). Both numbers are equally important. These figures apply to most adults.

What method is used by your office for allergy testing?
A Multi-Test Skin Test is used. Tiny plastic prongs poke the skin's surface for initial testing. This method tests for allergies to molds, pollens, trees, dogs, foods, mites and more. In some instances, we may also use blood testing.

What should I bring to my annual physical?
It is very important that you bring all medication bottles when you have a complete physical. This will allow our office to keep a complete and updated medication listing and to avoid potential medication complications.
