Migraines common among allergic rhinitis sufferersMany people with allergic rhinitis suffer from migraine headaches, according to a study in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. Researchers at Allergy & Asthma Car PA in Haddonfield, N.J., surveyed 294 adults and children with and without allergic rhinitis. Allergic rhinitis was diagnosed based on skin test results, clinical history, and physical examinatino. Among those with allergic rhinitis, 34 percent also had symptoms meeting the diagnostic criteria for migraines, compared with only 4 percent of subjects who did not have allergic rhinitis. Early fish comsumption may lower allergy riskChildren who eat fish before 1 year of age may have a decreased risk of developing asthma and allergic disease, according to a study in Allergy. Researchers at the Department of Occupational and Enviromental Health in Stockholm, Sweden, followed approximately 4,000 newborns for four years, gathering data about what the children had been exposed to and health effects. They found that children who started eating fish before the children's first birthday had reduced chances of developing asthma, nasal allergies or eczema. A Word about Allergies and AsthmaLuanne D. Johnson FNP-Certified Allergic disorders involve many areas of the body. Primarily people notice allergies when they make them itch, cough, sneeze or wheeze. Allergies may be related to environmental irritants: trees, weeds, grasses, pets, or irritants such as smoke, cleaners, paint or even foods. At some time in a person’s life an allergy may impact their life enough that an over the counter remedy may be tried like Benadryl or the person may seek medical help. Dr. Wenger-Keller and his Nurse Practitioners have many years experience in providing care to those affected by allergies, whatever the cause. Our practice will provide a plan of care ranging from environmental management or prescription medication to desensitization by immunizations (allergy shots). Asthma may be driven by an allergic response or may be brought on by upper respiratory illnesses, temperature variations or exercise. Fundamentally, asthma is caused by a genetic predisposition to the disease. Asthma suffers may present with difficulty breathing, wheezing and/or cough. Asthma can be controlled to an extent if a person is aware of what triggers their asthma and seeks help from a knowledgeable health care provider. As with allergy care, Dr. Wenger-Keller, Luanne and Peggy want to share their knowledge and provide you with relief from this manageable disease. Laser NewsGood News!
